Post-operative Intussusception, a rare case in pediatric, National Center for Paediatric Surgery, Gezira State, Sudan; 2021

Intussusception is defined by Treves in 1899 as invagination of segment bowel into adjacent usually proximal distal. It’s a common cause abdominal emergencies especially children two years age and younger. It accounts for 1 2000 infants results intestinal obstruction. Post-operative intussusception one the rare etiologies obstruction that represents 0.01 to 0.25% after laparotomies 5 -10% all early postoperative obstructions. Our case ten old female presented National Center Pediatric Surgery; Gezira state; Sudan; February 2021 complaining distention constipation 6 days. She had past history acute appendicitis due which she underwent emergency opened appendectomy. Her condition started day O/E : patient looks ill, febrile, not pale or jaundice; PR:140b/m; RR:25c/m; examination show: distended abdomen with full flanks, unhealed lanz incision small amount pus discharge; no dilated veins visible peristalsis; hernia orifice were intact; lower was tense & tender; palpable mass; DRE: rectum contains impacted hard stool. Emergency explorative laparotomy done. Findings: Ileocecal intussusception, healthy viable. Simple reduction Conclusion Recommendations: associated ischemia necrosis consistent our case. We highly recommended ultrasonography, CT scan; when there high index suspicion.
